Body temperature monitoring is essential as it tells us about a person’s health. Temperature monitoring can help doctors and nursing staff to monitor and track a patient’s health. A wearable temperature monitoring patch can enable the staff to monitor and log the patient in real-time without disturbing the patient. A temperature patch can also help athletes to keep track of their body temperature during workouts and training sessions which can help improve their productivity and the data can help improve their game.

The reference design from Texas Instruments is a highly accurate temperature sensor. The design employs a TMP117 high-precision digital temperature sensor with CC2640R2F wireless MCU. The reference design has an accuracy of ±0.1ºC temperature measurement around human body temperature. It has a flexible PCB design with an integrated PCB antenna that reduces the design complexity. It features a 2.4-GHz RF transceiver compatible with Bluetooth low energy (BLE) 4.2 and 5 specifications. The temperature sensor can work for up to five days and has a shelf life of up to three years. All the sensor data can be accessed through the iOS app that can be used for device monitoring.

This design provides design guidance for skin temperature measurement in medical and wearable applications along with an evaluation software and smart device application. The reference design is suitable for use as a patient temperature monitor or as a wearable temperature patch for sports and fitness applications.

This reference design has been tested by TI and has an iOS-compatible app for device monitoring. . It comes with comprehensive software, firmware libraries, tools, battery, etc. You can find additional data about the reference design on the company’s website.
